Course content

Plastic polymers used in fiber reinforced composites. -Fiber types. -Laminates, combinations of matrices and reinforcement. - Manufacturing methods. Sandwich technology, alternative materials. Calculating and testing of material properties.

Learning outcome

The canditate has knowledge about fundamental material properties of plastic polymers and reinforcement materials and sandwich theory. Knowledge about design of plastic products due to manufacturing and strength. Knowledge about environmental impact of plastics and composite materials. Knowledge about simple digital tools used for design and dimensioning.

Skills: The candidate is able to search for valid rules for dimensioning and design. Can perform simple calculations and dimensioning of components. Can design composites and calculate mecanical properties.

General knowledge: The candidate can plan and perform dimensioning, design and manufacturing of simple plastic and composite parts. By use of standards and rules work out technical information and present the results in a technical report. Can choose reliable plastic and composite materials for different combinations of strength, function and environmental impact.
