Course content
Topics:
- Dimensioning of different machine components such as shafts, couplings, bolts, gears, welding joints
- Rules for technical drawings
Learning outcome
Knowledge:
- has knowledge of the most common machine components
- have knowledge of the design of machine constructions based on the above
- have knowledge of environmental and social consequences of mechanical constructions
- knows regulations that deal with simple dimensioning based on standardized procedures / regulations
- has knowledge of simple digital tools used for design and dimensioning.
Skills:
- can find the necessary regulations that deal with dimensioning and construction
- can perform estimate calculations and dimensioning on mechanical components based on regulations
- can draw mechanical constructions according to standard machine drawing (NS)
- can use computer technology tools for 2D machine drawing.
General competence:
- can plan and carry out dimensioning and design of simple mechanical systems
- can, by means of standards and relevant regulations, document and disseminate written technical reports that deal with mechanical individual components or simple mechanisms
- Can select materials and design mechanical components in terms of strength, function and component life cycle.
Learning methods and activities
Teaching methods: Lectures and individual- and group-exercises (mandatory).
Mandatory assignments: 2/3 of the calculation/laboratory exercises must be delivered consecutively and be approved. All project work must be approved before the exam. The time and number of exercises will be announced at the start of the semester, as well as on Blackboard.

Resit exam takes place in August and the form of assessment is an oral exam.
