Course content

Measurement systems for signal acquisition on structures. Basic signal processing operations such as convolution, filtering, decimation and interpolation. Digital filter design. Signal transformation and analysis. Operational and experimental system identification theory and methods for multiple degree of freedom systems.

Learning outcome

Knowledge

The candidate has knowledge about the composition and characteristics of measurement systems used to acquire signals from structures, signalprocessing theory and methods to extract relevant information about the response of structures and system identification theory and methods to determine system parameters of structures.

Skills

The candidate can choose and assess suitable measurement systems to measure the response from structure. Combine different signalprocessing operations for preprocessing of measured data to reduce noise, attenuate or extract components of measured signals for further processing. Transform and analyze signals to identify characteristic properties of structure and/or discover errors in the measurement chain. Perform systemidentification with and without known input to the system.

General competences

The candidate can apply advanced signalprocessing and systemidentification software with a good understanding of the assumptions the software is based on and assess the results from the software. The candidate is able to develop their own software if necessary. The candidate has a good basis for reading scientific articles within the subject and develop and use the scientific field further with their own research

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, study groups and project work. The teaching will be in English when students who do not speak Norwegian follow the course. In this case, examination papers will be given in English only but students are free to choose Norwegian or English for written assessments. To pass the course a score of at least 70 percent is required.

Further on evaluation

For a re-take of an examination, all assessments during the course must be re-taken

Required previous knowledge

TKT4201 Structural dynamics 1 and TKT 4108 Structural dynamics 2 or similar

Course materials

Lecture notes and journal papers. Textbook/compendium covers parts of the subject.
