Course content

Research course over two years (four semesters), 24 credits.

Learning outcome

After completing the course, the student should 1) have knowledge of basic research methods within psychiatry; 2) be able to assess when to use different methods and processes within clinical research; 3) have knowledge of ethical issues related to doing clinical research within psychiatry; 4) have concrete and practical insight into research work as well as being able to participate in other researchers projects; 5) be able to communicate - both orally and in writing - research results through national and international channels of communication; 6) have the basic skills necessary to conduct and evaluate clinical research on a high level, and be able to build research networks; 7) have developed an academic mindset and be able to evaluate research questions within clinical research; 8) have in-depth knowledge of the research process, and know what it takes to be a good researcher within psychiatry; 9) be able to evaluate and make wise decisions in the different phases of a research project; 10) understand what clinical research within psychiatry requires of knowledge, skills and practical work.

Learning methods and activities

. 8-10 meetings each semester, 2-4 hours with some extended days. 1/3 lectures; 2/3 workshop/group discussions with student's own research projects. The subject will only be offered if enough students register.

Recommended previous knowledge

Recommended prerequisites: Basic research knowledge. 2 years of experience in a health profession (medical doctor, psychologist, nurse etc.) is strongly recommended.

Required previous knowledge

Admission requirements: Completed Master´s Degree or enrolled in a Master Program. The student must bring a plan for a clinical research project to be worked on during the course. Completed health profession (medical doctor, psychologist, nurse etc.)
