Course content

This course focuses on the importance of culture and context in mental health work. During the course we go through existing knowledge on globalisation and migration as well as mental health workers' own attitudes towards minorities. The course focuses on the professional meeting with users from other cultures and contexts as well as how to adjust health work. Trauma related suffering, usage of translator as well as other factors that are influential on mental health work will be discussed.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, seminars, group work and individual studies.

Total capacity of 25 students in IPH6424 and equivalent course MDV6424. If there are less than 10 student the courses will not be carried out.

The course is collection based.

Further on evaluation

Individual home exam of 1 week duration. Letter marking.

Re-sit will be arranged for candidates with legitimate absence from exam or with the result "Not passed".

Specific conditions

Admission to a programme of study is required:
MH - Continuing education - Category D - Higher degree - Funding 100% Institution funded (MHEVUDH100)
