About the course
Course content
One or two French literary works will be studied via several different perspectives, for example: thematic, rhetorical, narratological, literary history. This can also involve studying the work(s) via adaptations, such as film, cartoons, or other literary works based on the original text(s). Dimensions of the texts related to cultural or literary-historical context, history of ideas, or genre will be a central aspect of the course.

Learning methods and activities
Lectures and/or seminars. Teaching is offered in cooperation with the University of Bergen.
Obligatory assignments:
- One oral presentation (15 minutes) about a chosen research question related to the reading list.
- One written assignment of around 800 words: a summary of a reading list article which highlights the article's structure and argumentation. The assignment should also contain a final critical section, where the article's strengths and weaknesses are discussed.
Approved obligatory assignments are valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester). All obligatory assignments must be completed in the same semester.
Compulsory assignments

Further on evaluation
Home exam on a given topic. The exam must be completed in the course of 3 weeks. The students may have to complete other exams during the same time period. The exam must be answered in French.
Recommended previous knowledge
Bachelor's degree with specialisation in French, or a Bachelor's degree in European Studies with specialisation in French, or equivalent previous education.
