Course content
The student works independently and evidence-based focusing on project work, innovation and/or professional development. The fieldwork placement can include interprofessional, person-centred practice in municipal and specialist health services and in other arenas where occupational therapists can use their competencies to promote people's activity and participation. The student works systematically and quality-improving.
An asterisk (*) in the learning outcome descriptions refers to § 7b and d, § 8a and b, § 9bd, § 11b, § 12a and b, § 14c, § 16c, d and f, § 17e, § 19a and b, § 20b and § 21a, in Regulations on National guidelines for occupational therapist training, which is based on regulations of 6 September 2017 no. 1353on joint framework plan for health and social studies education § 2, and adapted to the education.

The student

The student
- can apply guiding, resource-oriented, empowering, problem-solving and creative strategies that promote activity and participation.
- assesses the environment's impact on independence, health, and quality of life.

- can plan and interact both interdisciplinary, interprofessional, cross-sector and across businesses and levels, and initiate such interaction, * (§ 12 b).
- can find and evaluate scientific literature that is relevant to their own professional practice.

General competence
The student
- has insight into and can follow occupational therapists' professional ethical guidelines to promote people's right to activity and participation, * (§ 9 b).
- can communicate, document, and promote occupational therapy professional practice, * (§ 9 c).
- can assess and prevent the risk of unwanted incidents and knows methods to follow this up systematically, * (§ 9 d).
- shows ability for targeted communication and interaction with users and in interdisciplinary work.
- update themselves on relevant legislation for occupational therapy professional practice.
Learning methods and activities
The course lasts 11 weeks, which consists of one week of preparatory learning with lectures, skill training, seminars and submissions, and 10 weeks of fieldwork. During fieldwork, the course has two compulsory written assignments.
The course has longitudinal teaching. External fieldwork mainly take place in the municipal and specialist healthcare services, and with private service providers.

Further on evaluation
Implementation and assessment of practice is governed by "Regulations on studies at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), "Guidelines for implementation and assessment of practical studies at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences", NTNU. A separate practical booklet has been prepared with detailed guidelines in relation to the practical studies.
In addition to the practical studies, the course contains two compulsory activities;
- Minimum 80% attendance in practice preparations
- Individual written assignment
Date for submitting the written assignment are announced at the start of the course.
Compulsory activities must be approved for the practical subject to be assessed as a pass.
Practice:
The internship supervisor and subject supervisor indicate pass/fail at the mid-term assessment and at the final assessment.
If the student receives a failing grade, the entire internship period, including preparatory teaching and mandatory submissions, must be completed again. In the event of a failing assessment, the next opportunity to complete the course is at the next regular completion of the course. The student has the opportunity to complete the same practical subject twice.

Required previous knowledge
The course has study rights requirements and is reserved for students who have been admitted to the bachelor's study in occupational therapy at NTNU in Gjøvik/Trondheim. The course is completed at the place of study at which you have admission. All prerequisites must be passed before the student can start the course.
