Course content
Frame for the technical content: - Thermodynamics for heat pumping processes and systems - Design and dimensioning of equipment for cooling, freezing and storage of products. Cold transport of products - Commercial refrigeration, retail food store refrigeration and equipment - Cold thermal storage of energy utilize the system and reduce the electric power peaks. The course content can be adjusted to the group of Phd-candidates.
Learning outcome
Knowledge: The course provides the student with knowledge about: Refrigeration processes in the industry. Design and construction of chilling and freezing processes and equipment
The course gives the student insight about: Operation of heat pumps and refrigeration processes. Main components like compressors, pumps, fans, heat exchangers and valves. Refrigeration installations in the industry. Chilling and freezing equipment, chilling and freezing storage
Skills: The course should enable the student to: Estimate thermodynamic properties for systems by the use of tables and graphical diagrams. Design and calculation of chilling and freezing processes and equipment
General competence: The course should give the student: Competence within industrial refrigeration systems. Understanding of systems and the capability to evaluate the efficiency of processes w.r.t. energy and exergy (energy quality). Overview of processes for heating (heat pumps) and cooling (refrigeration cycles).
Learning methods and activities
Colloquium. Depending of the number of students, the student will do the presentation on the topic, followed by a discussion. To pass the course a score of at least 70 percent is required. It will be an oral exam.
