Course content
The following topics are covered:- Heat exchanger types and their classification.- Methods for thermal-hydraulic calculations of heat exchangers (analytical and numerical).-Shell-and-tube heat exchangers: Shellside flow distribution (Flow-stream models).-Speciel topics, e.g. flow maldistribution in heat exchangers, transient behaviour, flow-induced vibrations, thermal fouling, compact heat exchangers.// The course may not be offered unless there are at least 5 participants.
Learning outcome
Knowledge: Basic heat transfer mechanisms in heat exchangers (convection conduction,radiation),heat exchanger types and their applications, methods for thermal-hydraulic calculations.The course gives the student insight about: Heat exchanger types and applications, thermal-hydraulic calculations, fouling mechanisms,flow-induced vibrations in crossflow heat exchangers, effects of flow maldistribution.General competence: Skills in analyzing and modeling thermal-hydraulic behavior of heat transfer equipment.
Learning methods and activities
Study groups, self-study and lectures. Compulsory exercises. To pass the course a score of at least 70 percent is required.

Required previous knowledge
Requires basic knowledge in heat transfer equivalent to topic TEP4130 Heat and Mass Transfer.
