About the course
Course content
The project is based on a realistic case that is relevant for the study programme, priorities of the department and NTNU`s focus on sustainability. The content of the project depend on the priority of topic. The supervisors will have skills related to the topic choosen.
Learning outcome
Knowledge - the students:
- are able to use relevant knowledge, methods and technology to analyse and solve problems for public interest

- are able to work independent and methodically
- are able to use reflection and evaluate the results scientifically.
Competence - the students:
- have gained knowledge and experience related to analysis, designing and putting into practice solutions of a given task and relate their work to aspects of sustainability
Learning methods and activities
Methods: Independent work or work in groups under supervision. The study may be a combination of practical and theoretical work. The project may be related to internal laboratorium, an external company, existing databases or relevant institutions. Each phase in the thesis must be well documented and the project as a whole should include elements which are not covered in other courses at the college.
Mandatory meetings: During the project there will be 4 mandatory assemblages where the students will present the progression of the project. A project plan will be approved by the supervisor before the student start the practical part of the main project.
For exchange students the bachelor thesis can be performed in the 5th semester (autumn).

The assignment is graded (A-F), not only on the basis of the final product, but also in terms of the level of difficulty chosen, project presentation and circumstances that may have affected the project work.
If the Bachelor's thesis is assessed to "Not passed" or "F", the student(s) must deliver a new thesis. The Bachelor thesis can be presented again within the same theme based on the same empiricism/data.

Admission to a programme of study is required:

Required previous knowledge
The student must have completed 96 credits from the first and the second year of the study. In addition to this, BIA2004 Seafood processing and BIA2002 Aquaculture must be completed. Dispensation from this requirement can be possible after application to Departement of Biological Sciences Ålesund.
