About

About the course

Course content

This course studies comparative physiology in order to compare physiological mechanisms/processes and functional organization (ecophysiological adaptations). The following topics will be included: metabolism, temperature regulation, endocrinology, osmoregulation, neuro- and sensory physiology. Students will present current research literature in seminars.

Learning outcome

On completion of the course the students should be familiar with physiological processes and the relation between structure and function. The learning goals regarding knowledge, skills and general competence are as follows:

With the assigned reading material and discussions in seminars the student should obtain knowledge about:

  • Comparative physiology.
  • Mechanisms that enable ecophysiological adaptations.

The student should have the skill set to be able to:

  • Acquire knowledge on an advanced level of comparative physiology.
  • Present comparative physiology in an ecophysiological context.
  • Discuss comparative physiology based on acquired knowledge.

The student should have general competence in:

  • Communicating research literature from within a specific area of physiology.
  • Discuss and apply knowledge in new areas.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and seminars (mandatory): 36 hours.

There will be an oral examination at the end of the spring semester.

Compulsory assignment: Approved participation in seminars

Compulsory assignments

  • Approved seminar attendance

Further on evaluation

Final examination is an oral exam. To be able to take the exam you must pass the compulsory assignment.

In case of fail or the student wishes to improve their grade it is possible to sign up for a new final exam both spring and autumn semester.
