Course content

Project management is pivotal in today's dynamic and competitive landscape, enabling organizations to tackle complex challenges, adapt to technological advancements, and deliver results that align with strategic goals. It provides a structured framework for efficiency, effectiveness, and responsiveness, making it a vital discipline in contemporary business and beyond.

The course delves into the practical application of project management methodologies and tools throughout the various phases of a project, including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control, and closure. Substantial focus is placed on the use of real-world project cases to exemplify and explore the foundational theories and strategies employed in the effective management of projects.

  • An exhaustive introduction to the defining characteristics of projects.
  • An in-depth analysis of project success, its dimensions, and the contributing factors.
  • A comprehensive examination of the project life cycle.
  • The intricacies of project organization and structure.
  • A diverse repertoire of tools and techniques for project planning, encompassing elements such as project scope identification, work breakdown structure development, resource allocation and planning, estimation, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • The core principles associated with stakeholder management.
  • A thorough introduction to the fundamental principles of project risk management.
  • A comprehensive overview of the principles underpinning project evaluation and the utilization of the earned value method.

Learning outcome

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

Learning methods and activities

The course consists of a combination of lectures and guest lectures, casework, paper presentations and discussions. Guest lecturers will facilitate the application of project management concepts and theories to real-life project situations.

Further on evaluation

Mandatory work assignments must be completed during the teaching weeks and presented in class in order to take the final examination. Previously approved mandatory assignments do not need to be handed in again for later exams.

The students are assessed through a project assignment that counts for 100% of the total grade. The project assignment can be written in groups of 2-3 students.
