Focus is on issues encountered in physical activity in every-day life, related to work and free time, as well as recreational and top-level sports.

Human movement is studied from an interdisciplinary perspective that combines and integrates aspects from social, natural and health sciences concerning physical activity. Fundamental fields such as anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, motor control, psychology and epidemiology, are viewed in relation to performance ability and exercise. Focus is placed on individuals and groups at different levels of skill, age and fitness. Knowledge about both individual and collective skills is taught on the basis of both theories and the results of empirical research.

Programme structure

The major in Human Movement Science is interdisciplinary, and combines approaches from social, health and natural sciences.

The first year comprises basic-level courses in theory and methods from the core fields within human movement and sports science.

The courses in the third semester are higher-level courses building on the courses of the previous year, and delve deeper into the research methods and application of theory to two contexts in particular, health and sport. This major provides a basis for admission to a master's programme in human movement science. It is recommended that students take additional courses in social, health and/or natural sciences in the course of their bachelor's degree.

A bachelor's degree requires three years of studies (180 ECTS) and the students are offered a possibility to combine different courses. For detailed information about the courses and information regarding language of instruction, please consult the course list .
