HyVa
The HyVa project is a collaborative effort between NTNU, NIVA, and OceanObs that leverages the power of hyperspectral data from the HYPSO satellites and other remote sensing platforms to develop a comprehensive monitoring system for Norwegian water resources.
The project aims to unveil secrets hidden within water reflectance by combining cutting-edge algorithms with historical data.
A crucial aspect of HyVa is the collection of high-quality data. Researchers are optimizing data collection from the HYPSO satellites and gathering in-situ measurements from critical areas. This combined approach will allow for the validation of data retrieved from space, ensuring the accuracy of the water quality information and developing new and novel methods for collecting remote sensing reflectance in situ.
HyVa paves the way for a future where the health of our water bodies is transparent and well-understood by harnessing the power of hyperspectral data and fostering collaboration between leading institutions.
The NRS—the Norwegian Space Agency through its "Følgemiddel" program is the main funding body of the project.
Project Goals
- Develop new algorithms to utilize hyperspectral data from the HYPSO satellites
- Create new satellite data products for a better understanding of Norwegian water bodies
- Investigate the performance of existing algorithms for the prediction of water quality parameters
- Adapt existing algorithms to hyperspectral data from HYPSO-1
- Share results with the ØKOSAT project
- Contribute with satellite-based data for environmental monitoring of water quality
- Create new and improved data products to understand and manage water resources better.
