HYPSO-3 Mission analysis
The successful launch and on-orbit demonstration of a small hyperspectral imager onboard HYPSO-1 (launch in January '22), which will be followed up with the launch of HYPSO-2 in '24, has shown promise in the value of hyperspectral satellite imagery. We now seek to improve the spatial resolution, by making a new optical design for future satellite missions. In this assignment, the student should perform a preliminary mission analysis for a small satellite with a hyperspectral imager, with a resolution of down to 5 meters. Main requirements and system drivers should be identified. Typical system budgets should be developed, and a mission operation concept should be developed. The student(s) should have some experience with programming (Python, Matlab). Knowledge about satellite communications, basic space technology and modeling with Systems Toolkit (STK) is an advantage, but not required.
