The 19th International Conference on Aluminum Alloy (ICAA19)
News
June 23-27, 2024
The International Conference on Aluminum Alloys (ICAA) is the world’s leading conference series relating to science and technology of aluminum alloys. It was founded in 1986 and has been organized every second year since then, alternating between Europe, Asia and the American continent. This year conference, ICAA19 was organized in Atlanta, Georgia, US, 23-27 June, with Georgia Institute of Technology and Novelis as the organizers.

The ICAA-conferences provides a forum for scientists and experts from universities and industrial and other research laboratories to present and discuss new developments in the science and technology of aluminum alloys, on their production, processing and physical metallurgy of semis and their broad applications. While ICAA19 comprised the usual exciting mix of technical symposia, ranging from the latest techniques and capabilities, to advances in alloy design and modeling, and emerging markets and applications, the over-arching focus was the critical role that aluminum will play in enabling the low carbon and circular societies and economies of the future, including a special symposium dedicated to sustainability in design and recycling. Prof. K. Marthinsen is a long time member of the International Committee. In addition to an interesting and rewarding scientific program, ICAA19 also provided the possibility to meet face-to-face with colleagues and old friends from around the world, for the first time since the pandemic:
SFI PhysMet was well represented at the conference, with the following presentations given by SFI PhysMet Researchers.
R. Holmestad, NTNU: Solute clustering and early-stage precipitation in Al-Mg-Si alloys
Yanjun Li; NTNU: Revealing the heterogeneous nucleation and grain growth behaviours ofinoculated aluminium alloys by in-situ X-radiographic study and numerical modelling
K. Marthinsen, NTNU: Phase and particle analysis in aluminium alloys using SEM EBSD and Dictionary Indexing
R. Bjørge, SINTEF: Advanced Characterization and Modelling of Dispersoids with NucleatedPrecipitates in Recycling 6xxx alloys
R. Bjørge; SINTEF: Structural Connections Between Al-Mg-Zn Alloy Phases and a Quasicrystalline Phase in an Al-Mg-Cu-Ag Alloy
The proceedings from the conference (with 2p extended Abstracts) can be made available upon request to the persons above.
