- How do editors work with scientists of submitted papers?

The second annual PhD conference will take place on 11-13 April 2018 at Sørmarka Conference Centre. The hotel is located just 20 minutes drive from Oslo City Centre and situated in a secluded forest overlooking a lake. It is a great setting for scientific discussions, networking and fun. We hope to see many NRSGH members at the conference. The PhD conference is arranged back-to-back of the Norwegian Forum for Global Health Research National conference 10-11 April. NRSGH request members to submit abstract to Global Health Conference 2018. Participants for the PhD-conference may apply for Travel grant to attend the National Global Health Conference. Transport from Oslo to Sørmarka Hotel will be arranged for NRSGH members. 

 

About the conference

The annual PhD conference of NRSGH is organized exclusively by PhD students, for PhD students. This is the perfect arena to meet other students doing research in global health topics, to dicuss relevant topic and broaden your network in a friendly atmosphere. The program will include lectures by invited speakers, group work, discussions, and social activities. There is no conference fee, and NRSGH will cover travel expenses and full-board accommodation at the venue of all NRSGH members.

 

Some confirmed speakers:

Richard Horton is editor-in-chief of The Lancet, which he joined in 1990. He is honorary professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University College London, and the University of Oslo. He has a longstanding interest in global health, and has co-chaired the independent Expert Review Group on Women’s and Children’s Health, reporting to the UN Secretary-General, and was member of the External Reference Group for WHO’s Research Strategy.

 

Michael Bretthauer is a gastroenterologists at Oslo University Hospital, and Professor in Medicine at the University of Oslo, Norway. In 2017, he was employed as the European Editor in The Annals of Internal Medicine, and is the first European Editor in the team of editors. Michael Bretthauer is also currently the president of the non-profit foundation Frontier Science. He has been a visiting Scientist at Harvard School of Public Health since 2008, and has been awarded numerous awards and honors.

Abstract 

It is mandatory for the participants at the PhD-conference to bring their abstract. This abstract can be simular to what have been accepted at the Global Health Conference 2018 in Oslo. Please register your abstract. (deadline 15 feb 2018) All submitted abstracts will be printed in a book that is handed out at the conference. The correctly completed form will help us generate the book with similar layout for all abstracts.

It is mandatory to submit a manuscript before March 20. We prefer a full article draft, but since the PhD students will be in different stages of their PhD we accept manuscripts consisting of Abstract/ Introduction/ Methods in one document. Photo Contest in connection with the conference   

The contest is open for photos that exemplify or capture a key global health challenge, solution or research question central to the PhD research undertaken by the individual PhD candidate. The best photo will be awarded with 2000 NOK and the second prize will be 1000 NOK. See more information


Transportation

All participants attending the Global Health conference 2018, including those who live in Oslo, must meet at University of Oslo, Professorboligen, Karl Johans gate 47, 11 April at 13.30pm. NRSGH will arrange bus transportation from Oslo to Sørmarka. The bus will stop at Oslo Central Station to pick up more participants. 

For the return trip on 13 April, NRSGH will arrange a bus from Sørmarka to Oslo Central Station (arrivel 4.15 pm). Participants must make their own travel arrangements to get to Oslo Airport (Gardermoen). NB!! MAKE SURE NO RETURN FLIGHTS BOOKED BEFORE 6.00PM FRIDAY 13 APRIL 

 

Travel expenses

NRSGH travel grant are limited to 3000 NOK for the roundtrip, including public transportation to/from the airport. Please note that private transportation is not included. NRSGH do not reimburse per diem expenses (food and drinks). Travel grant will be reimbursed after the conference. See more information.

If you are attending Global Health Conference 2018 with an abstract - you can apply for travel grants to cover the admittion fee and one night accommondation in Oslo. (Rememeber the limit 1200 NOK pr. night)

 

The Organizing Committee

The Conference Committee consists of PhD students from most of the partner Universities participating in the Norwegian Research School of Global Health. In addition one academic and one administrative staff from the host University and the NRSGH coordinator are supporting the Conference committee.
