General procedures

Our support process: application procedures for hands-on support

The grants office has specific application procedures depending on the type of call you plan on applying to. This is to ensure a well structured support process that is as adapted as possible to the needs of the scientific staff.

These procedures are for hands-on support (e.g. proposal review) with applications to specific calls. For general funding questions and guidance, email us directly at: soknadshjelpen@mh.ntnu.no. We are happy to set up a meeting (in person or digital) or offer guidance by email.

For hands-on assistance with a proposal, please select the type of grant you wish to apply for to see which procedures apply.

Support Procedures

All scientific staff at the MH faculty must submit an "Expression of Interest" (EOI) at least 6 months before the EU application deadline if they wish to submit a proposal for:

Scientific staff must follow the procedure for submitting an EOI, and use the appropriate template for ERC or coordinated HEU proposals.

As part of the EOI, scientific staff may also request funding to support them in the preparation of their EU proposal (PES). If funding is to be requested, the budget template must be completed and sent along with the EOI to soknadshjelpen@mh.ntnu.no.

Please note that scientific staff who do not submit an EOI within the specified time frame will not qualify for project establishment grants (PES). However, all proposals deemed competitive will receive support from the Grants Office (Søknadshjelpen) in preparing their application, subject to the office's capacity. We therefore encourage submission of EOIs as early as possible.

If you want the support in the form of proposal review from the Grants Office for your FRIPRO proposal, you must follow the procedure for submitting an expression of interest (EOI), using the EOI template for FRIPRO. EOIs are sent to soknadshjelpen@mh.ntnu.no.

The supported calls are:

For capacity reasons, we won't be able to support all researchers who submit an EOI. The EOI will be evaluated by the department leader with support from the research advisers from the Grants Office to determine if the idea is mature enough and fits the scope of FRIPRO and whether the applicant's CV and experience fits the call. Since the Research Council removed deadlines from these calls, there is no deadline for our internal EOI procedure.

We encourage you to send well-developed EOIs as early as possible.

All scientific staff at the MH faculty must submit an "Expression of Interest" (EOI) if they wish to submit a proposal to a centre call:

More information about the process for each call and the relevant EOI templates will be posted here closer to the calls’ publication dates. Deadlines for EOIs will be available here.

We provide limited support for proposals outside of RCN FRIPRO and EU, depending on our available capacity. If you would like to apply for a proposal review from the Grants Office, please follow the procedure for submitting a general expression of interest (EOI) using this the general EOI template at least two months before the application deadline

The EOI will be evaluated based on the grants office capacity and if the project and the applicant's CV and experience fits the call. EOIs are sent to soknadshjelpen@mh.ntnu.no

We encourage everyone to contact the Grants Office before submitting an EOI or if you have any questions regarding external funding opportunities. While we cannot provide hands-on support for every application, we respond to all inquiries and will assist you to the best of our ability.

NIH Applications:

For first time NIH applications, the Grants Office needs to create your PI user account in eRA Commons. Contact the grants office if you need an account and we are happy to set this up.
