Research activity

The Experimental Fluids - Hearst Lab is headed by Associate Professor Jason Hearst who is an NFR Young Research Talents recipient and an NTNU Onsager and Outstanding Academic Fellow. The lab is part of the Thermo-Fluids Research Group within the Department of Energy and Process Engineering at NTNU.

Our research focusses on the intersection of fundamental fluid mechanics with everyday problems, from sustainable energy to mixing cornstarch and water. Some of our present research is focussed on the interaction of turbulent flows with immersed bodies (e.g., cubes, flat plates, wind turbines, airfoils), lab-scale wind energy, non-Newtonian shear jamming, turbulence enhanced mixing, and urban wind energy.
