Contributing to sustainable energy systems in Norway: quantifying life-cycle impacts on biodiversity (CONSENSE)

The main objective is to assess the overall impacts of the Norwegian power generation and distribution on biodiversity using a holistic life cycle perspective, both for today's electricity system and future production scenarios for hydropower and wind power.

About CONSENSE

Norway wants to help achieve important international goals such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, trade-offs exist between several of these goals, for example, between maximizing renewable power production and related impacts on land and freshwater ecosystems.

To understand and minimize these trade-offs, using a system-wide approach, it is important to develop a methodology that can quantify the impacts of renewable energy systems in a life cycle perspective.
