The Comparative Genomics Lab is based at the Pompeu Fabra University, which is strategically located within the Barcelona’s Biomedical Research Park, together with other scientific institutions. This makes the Biomedical Research Park an excellent place to stimulate a multidisciplinary and collaborative environment, with a high number of shared core facilities, including state of the art experimental and computational facilities, all with excellent technical support. 

Role in DiverSea

The main role of the Comparative Genomics Lab is in the Work Package 1. The Lab will receive different types of tissue samples collected from the different groups involved in the project to perform DNA extraction and library preparation for shallow sequencing. The final goal is to generate genome skims for species identification, which, in turn will be used as reference libraries and will help to refine algorithms for population and individual identification within mixed samples.
