Tursiops Association
Tursiops is a marine research entity whose mission is the study of cetaceans and their threats in the Balearic Islands, so that management measures can be based on scientific knowledge. Their goal is to find the keys to addressing the conservation challenges of Mediterranean cetacean populations. Tursiops believes that the best way to fight for the protection, conservation, and sustainability of cetacean populations in the Mediterranean is through science, with rigorous research.
Role in DiverSea
Tursiops, as part of the DiverSea project, is leading the case study in the Balearic Islands. Their focus lies primarily on cetaceans, particularly sperm whales and bottlenose dolphins. They provide valuable insights into their presence and distribution, gather available oceanographic data, and conduct sample collection for environmental DNA studies. Additionally, they actively engage with stakeholders and play a crucial role in project communication and dissemination efforts.
