Digital Linguistics

Digital Linguistics

Digital Linguistics is a research field with the aim of creating prototypes and applications that allow for an integration of digital technologies and linguistic research. The group is engaged in national and international projects. Our methodologies combine e.g. corpus linguistics and the analytic fields of linguistics.

The Digital Linguistics Group works at present on:

Norwegian – German Valence dictionary

Traditionally, the study of language involves the use of mono- or bilingual printed dictionaries. Today the creation of lexical databases as websites, or as mobile apps has gained in importance. The Norwegian–German Valence dictionary is a digital tool under development which will make use of already existing Norwegian and German natural language resources to represent verbs and their valence in a dynamic interface.

Akan online dictionary

The Akan online dictionary is derived from a Interlinear Glossed Text corpus of Akan. While this corpus represents several dialects of Akan, our dictionary is specialised on Asante Twi. We have released a first small edition of the dictionary which is available for iPhones and Androids. Here words are accompanied by audios presenting their pronunciation, as well as example sentences directly taken from the Akan corpus.
