User groups for the academic clusters are now setting the requirements for NTNU´s unified campus
Students and employees at NTNU have now started the job of describing functions and needs that must be solved in the future academic clusters in NTNU´s unified campus: HumSam, KAMD, Economics and innovation, Central learning area and Main hub.

In order to ensure that the construction project has the necessary knowledge about NTNU´s core business, and that the construction is predictable and verifiable for NTNU´s students, employees and other stakeholders, NTNU has established a extensive structure for involvement. The work is facilitated by a joint project organization, with academic resources from both NTNU and Statsbygg.

Some represent the management, others have scientific expertise on various topics, but they all are involved with the perspective to take care of the need from those who will use NTNU's future areas.
The academic clusters requirements for the construction project
In the spring of 2022 three cluster user groups has started:
- KAMD - art, architecture, music and design - led by Fredrik Shetelig, Professor at the Faculty of Architecture and Design
- Economics and innovation - led by Monica Rolfsen, Dean of the Faculty of Economics
- HUMSAM - humanities and social science - led by Ingunn Hybertsen, Vice Dean at the Faculty of Social and Educational Sciences
In addition, separate cluster user groups are established for certain academic communities at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, as well as parts of the joint administration. These are affected by rocade/relocation when the academic communities in Trondheim are to gather at Gløshaugen.

The cluster user groups will, until May, work on a functional description for the cluster/academic community. The document describes the requirements NTNU sets for the construction project; which functionality that must be safeguarded for the academic clusters in the project.
Based on the users functional description, Statsbygg develop a building programme. The building programme responds on how NTNU's needs and requirements for functionality can be solved within the framework of the construction project.
Principles developed for NTNU's learning areas, hubs, workplaces and special areas
In 2021, five theme user groups worked on further development of principles for learning areas, hubs, special areas, workplaces, outdoor areas and property management at NTNU. These are topics that run across all NTNU's academic communities.

Through inspirational seminars, meetings, workshops and discussions, the thematic groups specified overarching principles at NTNU level that guide areas and outdoor areas at NTNU's campus. These principles will be summarized in a rector's decision at the beginning of 2022.
The theme user group for learning areas and hubs will be continued in 2022 and will develop "user's functional descriptions" for the Central learning area and Main hub.
The main user group ensures the entirety of NTNU´s unified campus
All deans, pro-rectors and directors, and the Student Council, the Confederations and the Safety Delegate Line at NTNU, have each appointed their representative to the Main user group for NTNU´s unified campus.
The Main user group's most important task is to ensure wholeness and coherence in the planning of NTNU´s unified campus, and that the project follows the strategy, frameworks and premises given by the Ministry of Education and Research and NTNU.
