Several partners work together

Together with the Norwegian Maritime Competence Center (NMK) and the vocational school in Ålesund, NTNU constitutes the core of Campus Ålesund. Fagerlia upper secondary school is also an important part. The school is under development and will during the autumn get at new building. This will, among other things, accommodate a new biomarine venture. The partners in Campus Ålesund have worked together to plan and structure further development of the area.

Ålesund envision a green, future-oriented and urban campus where all the players can grow and develop.

Reorganization of area use

An internal relocation process has been decided for NTNU in Ålesund, which means better utilization of the premises. Such a reorganization of the areas meets a great need for larger office and teaching areas. The students are also getting more work places.

More construction projects

The main building in Ålesund dates back to 1997, and there has been a need for an upgrade of the ventilation system for a long time. Since a reorganization of the area use was planned, it was decided that this upgrade would take place in the same period. Statsbygg owns the buildings, and they also want to replace the skylights in the Main building. Everything is done at the same time, to make the period of construction work as short as possible. New, modern skylights are energy-saving, and will make it possible to use the common area in the Main building for larger parts of the year.

The Rectorate has also decided to build a walkway between the Main building and the K building, but the date of the completion is not decided.

Campus Ålesund as a hub

Campus Ålesund is a hub in the dual sense: As one of four public hubs in Ålesund municipality (Moa, the hospital, Campus and city center), and as a knowledge hub where the university and the business clusters deliver important knowledge to the region, the country and the world.

An area plan has been developed to strengthen and develop the hub of Campus Ålesund.

Campus Ålesund cooperates with Ålesund municipality, which has the main responsibility for the planning work. The goal is a safe, environmentally and user-friendly area that facilitates cycling, walking and those travelling collectively. The plan describes how to improve traffic to and from the campus by removing dangerous intersections, reducing speed and building pedestrian and building a pedestrian and bicycle bridge.

The area regulation will form the basis for a comprehensive development of the campus area as a power center for competence, innovation and sustainable development.

You can read more about the area plan at: https://www.ntnu.edu/campusdevelopment/alesund/area-plan

The area plan has not yet been finally decided. It is expected to be completed in December 2019.
