Kamalika Das
Kamalika Das is a machine learning researcher at NASA’s Ames Research Center in California. In this role she has worked on a variety of machine learning applications in aviation safety, astronomy, and Earth and environmental sciences. Kamalika has been and continues to be the Principal Investigator/Co‐Investigator on multiple NASA‐funded projects on machine learning for climate and geosciences as well as aeronautics. She has also lead NASA's efforts on a DARPA funded project on anomaly detection in social networks for identifying potentially malicious entities.
Kamalika is actively involved in the peer‐ review process and serves regularly on NASA and NSF panels in data mining. She also co-chaired the Applied Data Sciences track in the 2017 edition of ECML-PKDD in Skopje, Macedonia. Her commitment to research, mentorship and service within the Computer Science community has won her the NASA Exceptional Public Service Medal in 2014 and several individual and team contribution awards. Kamalika graduated with a PhD in Computer Science in 2009 from University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
Silvija Seres
Artificial intelligence changes business models and markets, as well as how we work and who we are. I will talk about how we can conform to this revolution of all industries and societies, and how we can pursue this change in a good way, as leaders, employees and citizens.
Silvija Seres is a mathematician and technology investor. Her background is from research and education within software, where she did a PhD in algorithm optimization at Oxford University, programming at Alta Vista, and leadership at Fast Search and Transfer and Microsoft. Silvia has served on more than 30 major boards in private and public sector, and her current directorships include the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation and the Oslo Stock Exchange. She has recently developed the most popular technology podcast in Norway, and is passionate about lifelong learning in practice, now.
Teemu Roos
Teemu Roos is an Associate Professor in Computer Science at the University of Helsinki. Prof Roos’s research interests include the theory and applications of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science. His Elements of AI online course has a pivotal role in Finland’s unique, inclusive AI strategy. The course is a public-private initiative towards lifelong learning, and it has become a global phenomenon with over 130 000 participants to date.
Astrid Undheim
Astrid Undheim is Vice President of Analytics and AI at Telenor Research, the research division of Telenor Group. She has a phd from NTNU within performance and trustworthiness of ICT systems. Astrid has worked at Telenor since 2009 and her group currently focus on research challenges and opportunities in the intersection of AI, IoT, customer interactions and next generation networks (5G).
Rudolf Mester
Rudolf Mester is a professor at Goethe University, Frakfurt am Main. He is an adjuct professor at NTNU, where he performs research and initiates new projects in the areas of performance and reliability analysis of AI / machine learning methods, and for intelligent mobile systems (cars, ships, robots). He studied electrical engineering with an emphasis on signal and image processing at the Technical University of Aachen.
Nicola Palmarini
Nicola is a researcher, teacher, entrepreneur, writer and TEDx speaker focused on reinventing what it means to age and exploring the impact of technologies and their application in the society at scale and in the life of aging population and persons with disabilities. His proved international expertise in emerging technologies and digital disruption has been augmented by his global studies and research on cultures, society, policies, language and communication which helped him to quickly read complex global social scenarios and contextualize people wants, putting the end-user always first. His primary field of research is within aging-related scenarios where personal dignity, human needs & wants, economic factors, business processes optimization and technology converge.
Roger Moore
Professor Moore has over 40 years’ experience in Speech Technology R&D and, although an engineer by training, much of his research has been based on insights from human speech perception and production. As Head of the UK Government's Speech Research Unit from 1985 to 1999, he was responsible for the development of the Aurix range of speech technology products and the subsequent formation of 20/20 Speech Ltd.
Since 2004 he has been Professor of Spoken Language Processing at the University of Sheffield, and also holds Visiting Chairs at Bristol Robotics Laboratory and University College London Psychology & Language Sciences. He was President of the European/International Speech Communication Association from 1997 to 2001, General Chair for INTERSPEECH-2009 and ISCA Distinguished Lecturer during 2014-15. In 2017 he organised the first international workshop on ‘Vocal Interactivity in-and-between Humans, Animals and Robots (VIHAR)’. Prof. Moore is the current Editor-in-Chief of Computer Speech & Language and in 2016 he was awarded the LREC Antonio Zampoli Prize for "Outstanding Contributions to the Advancement of Language Resources & Language Technology Evaluation within Human Language Technologies".
Abhishek Thakur
Abhishek Thakur is Chief Data Scientist at Boost.ai - building state-of-the-art virtual assistants primarily for banking and insurance industries. His passion lies in solving difficult world problems through data science. Not long ago was ranked no. 3 worldwide on the Data Science Platform Kaggle. He is a Competitions and Discussions Grandmaster. Abhishek did his Bachelors in Electronics Engineering from India and moved to Germany for pursuing MSc from University of Bonn, Germany with a focus on image processing and computer vision. He dropped out of PhD in 2015 and since then has been working in industries.
Bjarne Foss
Professor Bjarne Foss is Pro-Rector for Research at NTNU with a specific responsibility for research and internationalization. He has been a professor at the Department of Engineering Cybernetics at NTNU since 1989 and holds a PhD in Engineering Cybernetics from the same institution.
Pernille Feilberg (Host)
Pernille Feilberg has a background in Information Science. She works with external and internal communications at the Faculty of Natural Sciences at NTNU.
Her responsibilities include public relations, communications management, press contact, and assisting researchers in their public outreach through different communication channels. She is co-editor of the blog NTNU TechZone and contributes to NTNU's research magazine Gemini.
