Course content

- IFC, both the conceptual model and the exchange format

- Model and rule checking in compilation tool; checking the 3D models of buildings in terms of different controls (for example completeness, collision etc.).

- Parametric design, 3D modelling using object orientation and BIM modelling in Revit or Archicad.

- Coordinate systems, selecting the origin, data capture, terrain modeling, creation and import of various BIM project data.

- Project collaboration including digital data flow and collision checking.

- Laser scanning/360-degree photogrammetry of existing buildings/facilities

- CDE software

Learning outcome

On completing this course, students will have:

Knowledge:

- Basic knowledge of modelling in software

- Knowledge of ICT/IFC-based information flow in projects

- How common data environment (CDE) can be used

Skills:

- Good skills in the use and application of a selection of IT systems related to BIM

- Basic skills in data flow using standardized data formats between different software

- Basic skills in the understanding of digital information processing and data and information sharing

General competence:

- Basic skills in the organisation and digitization of buildings and construction activities, including building information modeling (BIM)

- Insight and competence in the organisation and creation of practical models, with regard to object-oriented and/or layer-based principles

Learning methods and activities

Combination of lectures, meetings, web meetings, self-study and guidance for carrying out project work.

Compulsory activities: Agreed times for physical gatherings, as well as three compulsory tasks that must all be approved.

Compulsory tasks: applications of selected software among the following selected BIM software:

1. Collision and rule checking (Solibri)

2nd and 3rd (2 out of 3 directions are chosen):

- Infrastructure/facilities

- Project planning

- Reconstruction use phase

Compulsory assignments

  • collision and rule check
  • Modeling
  • BIM interaction

Further on evaluation

Three compulsory assignments, all of which must be graded as passing. Then, a project assignment is evaluated based on learning outcomes from the mandatory tasks. Grades are determined based on the project assignment.

Additional information on continuation:

By agreement with the course supervisor.
