Satellite Lab Infrastructure

Satellite Lab Infrastructure

Our lab consist of different infrastructure, such as an ESD-safe working area where our payload development, testing and integraton takes place. This is co-located with our main work-space, where bachelor, master and PhD-students of various background work together.

Lab and working area

The ESD-safe lab is equipped with a working area where we have our flatsat(s), payload development and assembly areas. We have a flowbench for assembly of optical parts.

Ground station

Two antenna installations are available for NTNU satellite projects. One antenna operates on S-band (about 2.2 GHz) and one dual-band UHF-antenna capable of supporting both the 437 MHz amateur band as well as the 400 MHz band for Earth Exploration Satellite Services (EESS). The Orbit NTNU projects SelfieSat and FRAMSat-1 will make use of the HAM-band, where as the HYPSO satellites will operate with 400 MHz as a backup communication link.

Both antennas can track the same satellite simuntaniously, enabling use of both S-band and UHF band during the same pass.

The UHF ground station supports up to five different radio systems installed in paralell (only one can be used at the time), easily selectable with a switch.
