Silicon Short Course
28 October, 2016 - October 17th to 19th the SFI hosted a Si short course in Trondheim. The course was partly arranged as a repetition for the industry representatives to renew their knowledge about silicon, and partly as a course for the students learning about some of these processes for the first time. It is also a great opportunity for the students and industry to meet and establish connections.
There were about 30 people attending from the industry with representatives from some of the SFI Metal Production industrial partners including Elkem, Finnfjord, Wacker and Fesil. In addition, MSc and PhD students from the materials field from NTNU attended. Lectures were given by Merete Tangstad, Gabriella Tranell and Jafar Safarian from NTNU and Bodil Monsen, Eli Ringdalen and Eivind Øvrelid from SINTEF. They talked about oven production of silicon, refining of metallurgical silicon and solar cell refining.
