Race, Indigeneity and Gender Research Group (RIG)

We are a collective of gender and sexuality scholars and other interested publics whose research focuses on race, racial inequality, colonialism, decoloniality and whiteness. The purpose of the research group is to encourage, promote and facilitate research, teaching and positive action on race, gender and social justice. In particular, we seek to
(a) Destabilise whiteness and racialisation;
(b) Disrupt normative engagements with gender and social justice;
(c) Decentre colonial knowledge regimes and theories.

Members of the group variously apply intersectional, decolonial and postcolonial theories and methods in their work. They offer critical perspectives onto questions of diversity, inclusion and justice, and work across the Nordic and related geographic contexts.

The group also provides a space for minority and racialised scholars to confidently/unapologetically engage with the critical study of race and gender as it manifests within society, institutions and diversity practices.
