Laboratory for additive manufacturing (AM lab)

DEPARTMENT OF MANUFACTURING AND CIVIL ENGINEERING

Laboratory for additive manufacturing (AM lab)

We offer high-strength metal components manufactured in state-of-the-art equipment. We have new production facilities adapted to the production process, which ensures streamlined product flow - from order to delivery. Additive manufacturing (3D printing) in metal is done on an Arcam A2X.

The laboratory belongs to MANULAB, a national infrastructure for basic research on manufacturing engineering.

Equipment and materials

Additive manufacturing (3D printing) in metal: Arcam A2X

The technology used in Arcam A2X is known as electron beam melting (EBM). This is a process that melts metal powder by sending electrons from a tungsten filament at high speed to the powder. The process chamber is heated to about 700 ° C and vacuum pumped to 10 ^ -6 bar. This gives a stable production process where we avoid parts with internal stresses.

What can you do

We mainly produce parts in Titan Ti6Al4V.
Effective building volume for A2X is 200x200x380 mm.

Access and opening hours

MANULAB is open for all researchers including industry, although the latter is limited by the ESA regulations.

The laboratories can be used by students at the bachelor, master and PhD level, in addition to researchers, for both teaching, study projects and research.

The laboratories are available by appointment.

Training and security

Users must have completed an HSE e-learning course, and received training before use.

Research

The laboratory belongs to MANULAB, a national infrastructure for basic research on manufacturing engineering.
