Thirty-three students got the possibility to learn about aquaculture on a very efficient excursion to Hitra.

They visited both a hatchery plant and a marine fish farm from Lerøy by three fast RIB boats. The students had fun travelling with more than 50 knots between Sandstad on Hitra, Belsvika and Ringholmen.

The hatchery plant is one of the world’s most advanced ones with an efficient water recirculation system. The fish farm operators demonstrated how a modern fish farm is controlled and stressed the increased focus on problems like salmon lice and other environmental issues.

IMT arranged the excursion together with the Coastal Museum of South-Trøndelag. Industry representatives from Lerøy assisted. The excursion was organized in connection with the Expert in Team-courses Aquaculture, Aquaculture in Marine Biology and Marine Systems Design.
