Digital platforms for new services in the renewable energy area
What is your project about?
The digitalisation of the energy sector is quite new, so there are not a lot of projects yet. But we have the micro grids which are blooming these days, and they are getting digitalised. That is making a decentralisation of resources. How the digitalisation affects the centralisation from different aspects. My main motivation for this project is that everything is getting digitalised. So, energy itself, by default, will become digitalised now. My study will focus on the interactions between participating actors found in work processes related to the energy sector with focus on renewable energy business.
What would you say is the goal of your project?
The long-term goal of my project is to define a smart contract business model for the energy services, making it easier to conduct energy trading within local communities. For example, if people who are using solar panels in their homes do not use all of the energy that they produce, they could sell it. It would be like peer to peer trading of the circular economy, which is one of the long-term goals of my project.
Who can benefit from your project?
Private households with solar panels on the roof can benefit from my project. As they usually do not use their power round the clock, they could sell it to someone else, all though today we see several challenges and constrains form a regulatory point of view. My project will also have an environmental impact, as the CO2 will be reduced, which makes this beneficial for all of us.
What is the most challenging part of your project?
The digitalisation of energy is something new, which means I need to work harder to find someone to cooperate with. Of course, I hope that the Covid-19 situation will pass, as it will make it easier to collaborate with other people and institutions. With that said, I have just started my project, so I guess the challenges are yet to come.
Do you have any collaborators?
I am open to any collaboration. The project is getting a lot of feedback, not only from NTNU, but also from external parties. So, it will be interesting to see what comes out of it.
