RSE Team
About the RSE Team
We have expertise in the use and writing of software that handles and processes research data. The team works project-oriented, preferably closely with research groups and other user environments when solving tasks. Our task is software that directly supports research and that is not standard programs or administrative programs.
The goal is to help researchers with IT challenges in their research, usually in research fields that are not IT-related in themselves. Although IT is a necessary part of most research fields today, you do not need to be an IT expert to be able to do your research. This is where our expertise can help!
Our experience
We have extensive experience from working with IT equipment in a laboratory context, including:
- Moving software or calculations to the cloud, using virtual machines.
- Import, migration, conversion and consistency checking of research data.
- Writing software for research projects, including in C, Javascript and Python.
- Databases for storing and processing research data with metadata.
- Setup for presentation of data collections online via the Web.
- Automated processes (pipelines) for processing research data from source until it is ready for use, and integration and "stitching" of such.
- Installation and start-up assistance regarding scientific software.
- Setup and use of Jupyter Notebooks.
- Secure processing and storage of sensitive data on IT equipment, including privacy protection.
- Help with storage systems for research data.
- Specification of resources and solutions prior to research applications.
Drop by
We have general drop-in time at Mimes Brønn on Tuesdays from 10:00 to 14:00 for an informal chat, and we can discuss the challenges you have. If it is time manageable and we have the right expertise, we will try to help you as soon as possible. Alternatively, we can also:
Give advice and tips so you can get ahead yourself.
Point to documentation etc that can help you further.
Referral to others at NTNU, if they can help you better than us.
Arrange a time to possibly help you later.
Our experience is that it takes a rather extensive effort in terms of time and money to reach the goal of a specific challenge. Then it is not certain that we have the capacity, but we can at least join in a discussion to see what opportunities exist.
If necessary, you can arrange a meeting with us in NTNU Hjelp.
