About - Sustainability Science Conference
Welcome
Welcome to the first NTNU Sustainability Science Conference 2017! With this conference we aim to expand such interdisciplinary research, and to provide an arena to discuss the latest research on sustainability science. The field of sustainability science advances our scientific understanding of the dynamics of human-environmental systems, and is therefore a synthesis, integration and awareness of different scientific disciplines. In collaboration with the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters (DKNVS), the Gunnerus Award in Sustainability Science will be awarded at the conference to a scholar who has made outstanding contribution to the field of sustainability science.
We have chosen the theme, Transitions to sustainable systems, for our first conference, as a means to highlight the importance of finding ways to practically implement sustainability strategies across economic, social and environmental dimensions.
I look forward to meeting you in Trondheim!

Goal
In order to reach the goals set by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement, the three dimensions of sustainable development – economic, environmental and social – must be considered holistically.
NTNU SSC 2017 is therefore designed to provide a forum for the presentation of sustainability science research that spans human and ecological systems and disciplines, and that reflects the awareness and incorporation of interactions, feedback and overlaps between these dimensions. NTNU Sustainability, hosts the conference as a platform to share evidence-based research and implementable strategies for sustainable decision-making. Strategies must be scientifically based and provide the foundation for practical innovation and implementation and influential decision-making.
The NTNU Sustainability Science Conference aims to advance the field of sustainability science and contribute to the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by:
- providing a forum for the international presentation of new research in the field of sustainability science;
- fostering an exchange of knowledge and good research practice between experts within all sustainability dimensions; and
- encouraging critical and cross-disciplinary discussion on current projects and initiatives.
