Postponement
Postponement of studies
After you have received an offer for a place on a study programme at NTNU, you can apply to postpone your studies. You can postpone your studies for one or two years at a time. Grounds for postponement are for example illness, conscription, parental leave, or other weighty reasons beyond your control.
If you are granted postponement of your studies for two years, you cannot start studying at an earlier date. If your circumstances change and you want to commence studies before the planned postponement, you will have to apply for admission the regular way.
Choosing to postpone your studies for one year at a time is usually considered to be the more flexible option.
This is how you apply
1. Accept the offer of admission within the given deadline
The deadline to apply for postponement of your studies is within 3 weeks after having received your offer for a study place at NTNU.
You can only postpone one study offer, regardless of how many offers of admission you have received.
2. Fill out the application form for postponement of your studies and add attachments
Application form for postponement of studies
The application form must be filled out electronically, and you need a Norwegian ID number to log in. If you don't have a Norwegian ID number, please send an email to opptak@ntnu.no so we can send you an application form.
When you apply for postponement of studies, you need to know which faculty the study programme belongs to:
Documentation
The reason you're applying for postponement must be documented. For example, if the reason for postponement is illness, this needs to be documented with a letter from a relevant medical practitioner.
