The PhD-programme in Historical and Cultural Studies includes humanistic disciplines such as Archaeology, Philosophy, Cultural Studies, History, European Studies, and Religious Studies. Through the PhD-study in Historical and Cultural Studies, you will have the opportunity to specialize in one of these subject areas. The programme also provides the opportunity for specialization across disciplines, in interdisciplinary research projects.
To solve the challenges facing the world and to create a sustainable society, we require knowledge about how culture and history shape our understanding and our choices.
The PhD is a three-year study that builds on a five-year Master's degree or other equivalent education. The programme consists of a coursework component of at least 30 ECTS and a doctoral thesis.
A Ph.D. is the highest level of formal education in Norway and qualifies you for leading work in business, administration, higher education, and research.
In order to be admitted to a PhD-programme you must have a complete funding plan and have completed a master's degree or other equivalent education.
