About the course

Course content

The course aims to develop a general understanding of the concept of management control, and thus contribute to experience in defining and solving issues within business economics. The course will provide the candidates with an introduction to various theoretical perspectives that can be used in practical and theoretical problem-solving. The course is built around both classical economic theories and modern theoretical perspectives on management control in its social and organizational context.

Learning outcome

The course will provide the doctoral candidate with advanced knowledge in the field of management control and specialized insights into theories, models and techniques for mangement control. The course will also provide the candidate with in-depth knowledge of the field's scientific theory and analytical methods. Further, the candidate should also acquire general skills in applying knowledge in new areas in the field of management control through work with cases and practical exercises related to their own research.

Learning methods and activities

The course is given as a combination of lectures, seminars and student presentations, and runs in parallel with the course ØS420 - Perspectives on Management Control (MSc in Economics and Business Administration). Parts of the course can be taken as an individual self-study.
