Course content

Practical educational training is an integral part of the three-year vocational teacher education. Together with the vocational and professional subjects, the practical training should provide the basis for 8th - 13th grade training.

Practical training includes professional practice in business/enterprise and pedagogical practice at youth level and in upper secondary education. Guided practice is included as a central part of the course. The purpose of the course is to further develop the student's prerequisites in order to be able to provide vocationally relevant training, guidance and instruction within his / her own subject area / educational program.

The learning outcome requires active participation, systematic guidance, planning, implementation and assessment of own practice. The course also emphasizes the use of own experience from practice and the further development of competence in the professional subjects.

The student

  • has good knowledge of learning and varied training in school and business/business
  • has good knowledge of classroom management and inclusive learning environment
  • has good knowledge of planning, implementing, assessing and documenting training
  • has good knowledge of curricula and management documents within their own educational program and in general for training in secondary and upper secondary school
  • has good knowledge of guidance and instruction in school and business/business
  • has knowledge of children and adolescents in difficult life situations

Skills

The student

  • can analyse and adapt different forms of work in the training in line with governing documents
  • can plan, justify and direct interest-differentiated, relevant and vocational training adapted to the individual's learning needs and training plans
  • can lead a learning community and facilitate good relationships and good cooperation in order to promote equality, professional and social learning and development
  • can plan, assess and document training and help pupils / apprentices reflect on their own learning and professional development
  • can use different guidance strategies in school and business / business training
  • is able to identify special needs of children and adolescents, including violence and sexual abuse, and take necessary preventive measures and establish cooperation with relevant relief agencies

General competence

The student

  • can reflect on subjects, education and pupils'/ apprentices' learning in light of current curricula and professional ethical perspectives

Learning methods and activities

The total number of practical training days is 45 days. All practical training is mandatory and should be supervised. During pedagogical practice, the student should be responsible for planning, conducting, and evaluating a minimum of 20 teaching hours.

Vocational practice, like pedagogical practice, should be supervised. Throughout vocational practice and pedagogical practice, the student should work on defined work requirements.

Defined work requirements: (OBL 1)

  • Further refinement of vocational practice plan and reflection
  • Document vocational breadth and depth of competence
  • Develop a teaching plan

Mandatory activities are assessed as approved/not approved.

Compulsory assignments

  • Defined work requirements
  • YFF - mapping of the school's organization of YFF in upper secondary school
  • 20 days completed pedagogik internship in upper secondary school
  • 25 days vocational internship in company enterprise

Further on evaluation

Passing the course requires approved compulsory activities, (OBL. 1, 2, 3, 4) Final assessment; Pass/Fail.

Special conditions

Compulsory activity from a previous semester or a passed exam from another educational institution can be approved by the department.

Requires admission to study programme: Yrkesfaglærerutdanning (BYRK)
