About the course

Course content

The course deals with the distinctive nature of the professions in the various fields of study where vocational breadth/depth and professional subjects are seen in relation to each other. Emphasis is placed on professional identity and professional culture based on the learning tradition of vocational education in the various industries. Sustainable development and ethical issues in relation to professional practice in the various industries. Furthermore, the course is about facilitating learning with emphasis on supervision, communication and digital skills within the various professions in training, teaching and assessment.

Knowledge

The student

  • has knowledge of the breadth of vocational education and training within their vocational field and the distinctive nature of the various professions 
  • has broad knowledge of working methods, processes, tools and digital tools that are relevant to their vocational field and the distinctive nature of the various professions
  • has knowledge of professional identity and vocational culture within their own vocational field and the distinctive nature of the various professions
  • has knowledge of ethical and sustainable development and production within their vocational field 
  • has knowledge of communication, supervision and other forms of learning, work and assessment in vocational education and training

The student

  • has insight into and can convey key subject matter about communication and interaction within their own vocational field
  • can plan and carry out varied teaching and training in their own vocational subject area
  • can use and make informed choices of digital tools that are relevant to their own vocational field 
  • can assess ethical issues and make sustainable choices in their own vocational field
  • can supervise, assess and document vocational education and training that contributes to pupils/apprentices' reflection on their own learning 

General competence

The student

  • can facilitate vocationally relevant vocational training with roots in their own vocational subject area
  • can facilitate varied training in different training arenas in cooperation between school and company/business within their own vocational subject area 
  • can facilitate training in various digital tools within their own vocational field
  • has insight into and can communicate relevant professional and ethical issues in vocational education and training 
  • Can guide pupils to make conscious educational choices in different vocational subject areas

Learning methods and activities

The course includes teaching, excursions and other learning activities at gatherings, and digital learning activities between the sessions. There are mandatory work requirements in the course and self-work and group work are scheduled between the sessions. Guidance is offered in connection with and between the gatherings.

80% compulsory attendance at the gatherings and defined learning activities between the sessions.

The assignments are assessed as approved/not approved. All coursework requirements must be approved in order to take the exam.

Further on evaluation

Individual written home exam (14 days).

The exam is assessed individually according to grading scale A-F, where the grades A-E are passed and the grade F is fail.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Vocational Teacher Education (BYRK)

Required previous knowledge

Requires admission to the vocational teacher education - bachelor's programme.

Students must have passed YFL1010, YFL1020 and YFL1000 in order to start this course.

Students must have started at YFL4306 to take the exam in the course
