Course content

The course is meant to give a thorough theoretical understanding of the various topics in the field of urban water systems, including water transportation systems, natur based solutions and green infrastructure for stormwater management, urban flood modelling and management, hydroinformatics for advanced systems performance assessment. The effect of urbanisation and climate change as external pressures on the urban water systems are important overarching topics. The course has a strong focus on socially and environmentally sustainable solutions. An emphasis will be made on in depth understanding of the selected topics in relevance to research in environmental engineering.

Learning outcome

Knowledge: The candidate should have knowledge of assessment of sustainability for water and wastewater systems and forecasting performance and reliability of water and wastewater services. The candidate should be able to consider the application of various analytical methods in the field. Further she or he should contribute to the development of new theories and methods in the field. Skills: The candidate should master selection of methods and tools to analyse sustainability, and be able to make use of modeling tools. The candidate should be able to use these skills to perform research at a high international level. The candidate should be able to assess the work of others on the same level. General competence: The candidate should be able to use knowledge from the discipline for scientific assignments and projects, and to publish research and development results in recognized national and international channels.
