Course content
The course is designed to give a broad theoretical and practical foundation within wastewater treatment. This also includes sludge treatment. An overview of typical wastewater characteristics, how this may affect relevant treatment processes, will be given, in addition to treatment and effluent requirements. The course will cover the theoretical foundation, and practical configurations, design and operation of relevant wastewater treatment processes, including physical-, chemical- and biological processes. It will also focuse on how to combine different treatment processes to meet present and future effluent requirements. Sludge handling and treatment will also be covered.
Learning outcome
Knowledge
The students should have knowledge about theory and practical design and operation of treatment plants for wastewater. They should also have knowledge about wastewater effluent requirements, and how these can be met. The sudents should have in-depth process knowledge, how to design and optimise relevant processes, and how to configure processes in a treatment plant. The student should also have knowledge about sludge treatment requirements and the relevant sludge treatment processes to apply.
Skills
The students should have good process knowledge and be able to design wastewater treatment plants for Norwegian and international conditions. This includes obtaining and applying appropriate design values, and making appropriate assumptions when needed.
General competence
The student should have an in-depth knowledge on the relevant processes, and have a good understanding on how to combine and configure the different processes in a treatment plant.
