About the course

Course content

Design 6 is a practical project that utilizes knowledge and skills gained in previous topics. The project is supported by a number of lectures. Students will complete an individual project with external clients, where the design brief is concrete and deliverables are clearly specified by external clients in cooperation with supervisors at the Department of Design. The projects can be in product design or interaction design. The grade is given on the basis of documentation, which has been discussed with the company on three milestones in the semester. A reflection paper also forms part of the grade. The following topics will be addressed in lectures: Theoretical models of the design process, project planning, documentation of design work, design protection and rights.

Learning outcome

Knowledge: The student can plan, manage, and deliver appropriate documentation for a design project in cooperation with the company. The student is familiar with several theoretical perspectives on design and design process, and is able to formulate their own professional standpoint. The student know about their rights and design protection.

Skills: The student is able to put together what has been learned in a practical context. Can deliver a solution proposal for the briefing, developed in collaboration with external business. Can document the design process in a way that is relevant to the theme and principal needs.

General competence: The student are able to describe their professional stand-place in relation to theories of design and process. The student can plan and implement practical design work.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, exercises, project with external client and individual counseling.

Further on evaluation

For a re-take of an examination, all assessments during the course must be re-taken.
