Learning outcome
Students will complete a master thesis within the field. Knowledge: Use scientific methods in the implementation of a selvstandig work in the field. Skills: Students will be able to prepare a project plan with milestones, reporting partial results and write a thesis in accordance with established standards. General competence: Documented scientific qualifications through completion of a master thesis in the field.
Learning methods and activities
Independent thesis work under supervision. The thesis may wholly or partly be completed at an external company, in agreement with the academic supervisor.

Information about writing and submitting your masters thesis is found in Academic writing. Especially note the information given under Writing and submitting your master's thesis. Your area of study is Engineering/Technology. If the project is performed as group work, the students and supervisor shall make an agreement (preferably at start-up) about individual or joint assessment of the final project report. The masters thesis has to be submitted in NTNU's examination system Inspera Assessment. The deadline for submitting the masters thesis is 20 weeks from the starting date (the students have additional 6 weeks if they are writing a master thesis abroad.) + 7 days for Easter/Christmas holidays. Applications for an extended deadline must be submitted to the Faculty of Engineering. Students who fail the masters thesis, can submit a new or revised thesis once. It is not possible to improve an awarded grade by submitting a new thesis. The deadline for the assessment of the masters thesis is 3 months.
Recommended previous knowledge
It is required that the student has completed all courses which are listed as obligatory for the profile/specialization in the study plan.
