About

About the course

Course content

Curves in space. Functions of several variables. Taylor's theorem in two dimensions, extremal values in several variables, Lagrange multipliers. Double and triple integrals, line and surface integrals. Vector calculus. The theorems of Green, Stokes, and Gauss.

Learning outcome

1. Knowledge. The student is able to recognize, understand and apply concepts and methods from multi-variable mathematical analysis, including multiple integrals, line integrals, surface integrals and the integral theorems of vector analysis.

2. Skills. The student is able to apply his or her knowledge of multi-variable mathematical analysis to formulate and solve problems in mathematics and the natural sciences/technology, if necessary with the additional aid of mathematical software.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and exercises. Compulsory parts possible. The portfolio evaluation (mappevurdering) is the basis for the final course character. The portfolio consists of a final exam (80%) and exercises (20%). These results are given as percentage points, but the final grade only with letter characters. The exercises contribute only positively to the final grade. Any retake examination may be given as an oral examination.

Compulsory assignments

  • Exercises

Further on evaluation

In the case that the student receives an F/Fail as a final grade after both ordinary and re-sit exam, then the student must retake the course in its entirety. Submitted work that counts towards the final grade will also have to be retaken. For more information about grading and evaluation. see «Teaching methods and activities».
