Course content
The subject's position and function in the study:
The course is compulsory in the first year of the study program INGLOG (Program identity subject 2), and is intended to help provide a basic introduction to Operations Management (OM) so that students can understand and apply key OM concepts, theories, principles, methods, and techniques. OM is the discipline that deals with the doctrine of how operations in production, logistics and the value chain are designed, planned and managed, organized and managed so that goods and information flow as efficiently as possible through the processes. The subject deals with the strategic, tactical and operational aspects of OM, and focuses on the sustainable and ethical aspects of OM.
Academic content
The course contains the basic elements of Operations Management (OM) which are OM strategy and competitiveness, performance management, product and process design, work system design, the production system, planning and management of goods and information, total quality management, capacity planning , warehouse/facility location, layout design, and inventory management.
Learning outcome
Knowledge: The course must convey the following knowledge to the candidate

Skills: The candidate must be able to:
- Use OM to explain how the processes in production and logistics can be improved
- Explain how OM contributes to realizing the organisation's goals and strategies
- Use OM to explain how sustainable production and logistics solutions can be realised
- Describe the interaction between OM and technology and how technology helps to improve production and logistics solutions
- Explain and apply quality-driven management and identify quality costs
- Plan for capacity, make decisions for location, and plan process layout
- Carry out time analysis and develop standardized work
- Beordring using various inventory management policies.
- Develop processes, products, and systems for efficient and sustainable logistics
- carry out a sustainability analysis;
- Apply the skills in case-based exercises in the course that are documented in reports and presented in class.
General skills: The candidate must be able to
- Explain the role of OM in the organization and how OM contributes to sustainability and competitiveness
- Describe the central OM concepts, theories, strategies, principles, methods and techniques
- Explain how technology helps to support the central OM processes

Written, digital school exam.
6 exercises. At least 5 must be passed to be able to sit for the exam.
Compulsory activity from previous semesters can be approved by the department.
The re-sit exam can be changed to an oral exam.
