Course content

Strategy, innovation and International Business Development is a specialization that focuses on problems associated with the strategy, innovation management, international marketing, management and development of global value chains and new product development processes that strengthen the international competitiveness of firms. The student's choice of subjects of specialization and project must be approved by the institute before the work starts. A list of proposed subjects are distributed in the spring semester. Some project proposals might require specific 4th year courses.

Learning outcome

Position and function of the course in the study: This is a compulsory course for students in the "Strategy, innovation and International Business Development" specialization in the fifth year of the MTIØT program. The course contributes in particular by giving students in-depth understanding of scientific principles underlying their chosen specialty within the administrative area of Strategy and International Business Development, as described in point 4.5 in the learning objectives for the programme of study in Industrial Economics and Technology Management. The course will provide knowledge about the following: The student will be able to analyze and solve problems and managerial challenges related strategy and international business issues for companies. The course will provide competence in development of knowledge and ability to read, understand and use existing research in a framework of strategy development and international business activity. Other important learning outcomes: The student will be trained in the ability to discuss and present theory related to strategy in international business development.

Learning methods and activities

Independent project work under supervision by a member of the scientific staff. The work should be presented in a scientific report and is evaluated after scientific criteria. The students can do the work alone or in groups of up to three members.

Required previous knowledge

The specialization requires TIØ4265 Strategic Management and TIØ4235 Industrial Marketing and International Business. The students must also choose TIØ4567 Strategy, innovation and International Business Development SC.
