Course content

The course is a further specialization within relevant subjects of Strategy and international business development and builds on subjects presented in the mandatory courses in the 4th year of the programme. The choice of subjects may vary from one year to another depending on the focus issues of projects that students have chosen in TIØ4562 Strategy and International Business Development, Specialization Project. Included in this course is also an introduction to research methods.

Learning outcome

This is a compulsory course for students in the "Strategy, innovation and International Business Development" specialization in the fifth year of the MTIØT program. The course contributes in particular by giving students in-depth understanding of scientific principles underlying their chosen specialty within the administrative area of Strategy and International Business Development, as described in point 4.5 in the learning objectives for the programme of study in Industrial Economics and Technology Management. The course will provide knowledge about the following: The course will provide competence in development of knowledge and ability to read, understand and use existing research in a framework of strategy development and international business activity. Other important learning outcomes: The student will be trained in the ability to discuss and present theory related to strategy in international business development and understand the publication processes.

Learning methods and activities

The students will select relevant journal papers, evaluate these and are expected to write a critical analysis of the selected papers. Feedback and lectures will provide the basis for the work with these papers.

Required previous knowledge

The specialization requires TIØ4265 Strategic Management and TIØ4235 Industrial Marketing and International Business. The students must also choose TIØ4562 Strategy and International Business Development SP.
