Course content
Introduction to wavephysics and fluidmechanics
Wavephysics: Description of wave motion, harmonic waves, the wave equation, elastic waves, wave packets, wave phenomena, dispersion.
Continuummechanics/fluidmechanics: The continuum hypothesis, conservation laws, pressure, the control volume method, differential methods in flow systems, Navier-Stokes' equation. Various flow system.
Learning outcome
The student shall: 1) achieve a basic understading of wavephysics and fluidmechanics, 2) learn to analyze various problems in wavephysics and fluidmechanics with methods that involve differential and integral calculus, 3) be trained in analyzing problems in wavephysics and fluidmechanics using ICT-based methods, 4) develop experimental skills.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, excercises, numerical and experimental projects.
The student's expected work load in the course is 225 hours.
Compulsory assignments
- Excercises
Further on evaluation
The final grade is based on portfolio assessment. The portfolio includes written exam and projects. The evaluation of the different parts is given in %-points, while the entire portfolio is given a letter grade. For a re-take of an examination, all assessments in the portfolio must be re-taken. The re-sit examination (in August) may be changed from written to oral.
Recommended previous knowledge
FY1001 Mechanical physics.
It is advised to take TMA4105 Calculus 2 or MA1003 Multidimensional calculus in parallel.
