Course content

Arithmetic and algebra, set theory, equations and inequalities, functions, limits and continuity, derivation and integration, trigonometry and geometry, exponential and logarithmic functions, vectors, sequences and series, programming and algorithms.

Learning outcome

With a passed exam/assessment in the course, the candidate must have the following overall learning outcome defined in the form of knowledge, skills and general competence:

Knowledge:

  • The candidate has basic knowledge of mathematics as a foundation for today's technological society.
  • The candidate has knowledge of mathematical topics that are fundamental to technological courses.
  • The candidate knows the topic's central methods and can define and explain the most important concepts in geometry, algebra, and functions.
  • The candidate has basic knowledge of the use of digital tools for calculations and visualization.
  • The candidate can explain the concept of algorithm and has basic knowledge of programming in mathematics.

Skills:

  • The candidate has solid arithmetic skills in algebra and the general basis in mathematics to be able to continue on to an engineering education or an integrated master's degree in technology.
  • The candidate can solve problems in the main areas of geometry, algebra, and functions.
  • The candidate can apply arithmetic skills in mathematics to problems from physics.
  • The candidate can express himself precisely by using mathematical notation.
  • The candidate can use programming to perform simple numerical calculations.

General competence:

  • The candidate has the ability to think abstractly and understand how logical and analytical thinking is used in mathematics.
  • The candidate can reflect on possible areas of application for the various main areas in the course.
  • The candidate can communicate with others about scientific issues by using mathematical concepts and quantities.

Mandatory work requirements:

12 work requirements are implemented - including one compulsory work requirement in programming. The programming requirement, as well as 8 of the other requirements, is required to be approved.

Postponed exam: August. Re-sit exam may be changed to oral exam.

Specific conditions

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Ettårig forkurs for 3-årig ingeniørutdanning og integrert masterstudium i teknologiske fag (FTFORKURS)
Preliminary study (FTREALFAG)
